Our client is an established, heavily backed payments automation platform that streamlines money movement for finance teams — payroll, supplier payments, spend management and collections.
Marketing is being rebuilt into a measurable engine and the demand generation team is thin on the ground while permanent hiring runs. This contract exists to carry a priority vertical’s pipeline number now rather than wait. You own that vertical end to end, working as one unit with its product marketer, with real autonomy over channels and tactics and no ramp-up period. It suits a senior hands-on demand generation specialist who can walk in, read the funnel and start running campaigns in week one.
Location and working pattern
This is a hybrid 6 month contract based at the client’s central London office. There is genuine flexibility on which days and on the overall pattern. The engagement is inside IR35.
Key role details
- Own one priority vertical’s pipeline number — carry the quarterly commitment, know your conversion rates by stage and your cost per meeting, and be able to defend them to the leadership team.
- Run your vertical as a pod with its product marketer and the sales leads who cover it, so messaging, campaigns and follow-up are planned together rather than handed between teams.
- Run paid acquisition hands-on — build rigorous testing into paid search and social, run it yourself, and hold agency and freelance partners to clear goals.
- Build lifecycle and nurture as a real motion: segment the audience, build flows that move prospects through the funnel and re-engage those who have gone quiet, and own the platforms and reporting behind them.
- Turn events into pipeline, setting capture targets before they happen and tracking conversion afterwards, with the events manager delivering.
- Work alongside sales development on targeting, messaging and timing, under a single shared pipeline goal with sales.
- Build the playbook your vertical needs rather than scaling down a generic one — particularly where it runs through partners, at higher volume, or to a different buyer.
- Work alongside freelance and agency partners currently providing interim capacity, and help bring order to that patchwork.
- Use AI workflows to compress campaign cycles, from segmentation and copy testing to setup and reporting, and leave them behind for the permanent team.
- Hand over cleanly to the permanent hire when they arrive.
Experience and competencies required
- Five or more years in B2B demand generation or growth, including owning a vertical, segment or region end to end, and you can describe exactly what you did to move its number.
- You have run paid hands-on rather than only managing agencies, and you are comfortable across lifecycle, events and working with outbound.
- Fluent in the funnel — lead to meeting to opportunity, the conversion rates between each, where things fall through and how to fix it.
- You work from evidence: you pull your own reports and decide on the data rather than on instinct.
- A track record of arriving into an under-resourced function and producing results quickly, without a team to delegate to.
- B2B is a requirement. Payments, fintech or another regulated and technically complex product is preferred, as is experience of longer sales cycles with several people in the buying decision.
- For one of the seats specifically: substantial product-led growth and self-serve acquisition experience, including direct-response advertising and partner-shaped demand at volume.
- Real fluency with AI, not just everyday use: you have built and shipped your own workflows or automations and you use AI daily to work faster. There is an AI component to the selection exercise.
- Available at short notice, able to be on site in central London around two days a week, and willing to work through a compliant umbrella arrangement.
- Right to work in the UK.
